Originally written in 1886 for cello and two pianos as part of The Carnival of the Animals, Le Cygne is characterized by its beautiful and flowing melody, which evokes the image of a swan gracefully gliding across water. Considering the original cello voice, the melody lends itself effortlessly to the clarinet. This is a great light recital or ensemble contest piece.
