Written in 1784, Haydn's Quartet in D Minor is the only work under the Opus 42. The first movement, Andante ed innocentemente, is unique and lends itself well to wind instruments as it is slow and reflects on the sonata da chiesa (church sonata) format, popular in the Baroque era. An excellent work for young quartets for recital or solo / ensemble contests.
Grade: 4
Instrumentation:
Soprano / Alto / Tenor / Baritone.
